The ceremony was seated in a circular brick courtyard of the hotel, cream bentwood chairs curved around a central planting bed, painted discs in yellow, mint, orange, and red scattered across the pavers like dots between the letters of the show’s title card.

By Flor Tonelli Aisle arrangements kept loose and stem heavy, orange ranunculus and yellow gerbera on tall stems, pink spray roses, cream garden roses, small pale blue flowers, all at different heights. Bright rather than clean, which is the right register for a garden in Saigon in July.

Guests were met by a sign that read “Welcome to Somewhere Between Sarcasm and Loving Jokes,” the words set inside wavy mirror cutouts as Vee likes a selfie, behind which two painted loop-eared bunnies stand in for the couple’s own bunnies.

The planners’ rule was that references had to appear as part of the day rather than as decoration sitting on top of it, and the door is the most obvious case. It’s a working door, painted a dusty lavender rather than austere purple so it opens onto the garden behind it, with a brass bell, gold knob and lever lock, and a yellow oval frame on a pearl chain. To his right, V + M and the date in gray hand lettering, and below everything real dahlias, parrot tulips, and gerberas crowd against the painted ones.
